This week employees and patients at Monash Children’s Hospital are celebrating Book Week. The theme for this year’s Book Week celebration is “old worlds, new worlds, other worlds”, which serves as an opportunity for everyone to dress up as their favourite book characters to bring some fantasy and joy to the hospital.
On Tuesday, characters from all worlds could be seen at Monash Children’s Hospital as employees across wards, units and departments got involved in the celebrations.
Monash Children’s Hospital School Principal Colin Dobson described Book Week as a time “when we come together and enjoy the wonder and curiosity that comes from reading. Throughout Book week, there is a major focus around literacy for our teaching and learning sessions”.
“Young people would be involved in Book Week activities at their base schools, so we try to replicate some of the activities that they would have participated in if they were at school.”
While Book Week celebrations looked different from past years due to COVID-19 precautions, patients and employees could still get involved and bring their favourite book characters to life.
The Book Week celebrations continued at Monash Health over the week, with dress-up days organised on Thursday at Dandenong Hospital and Friday at Casey Hospital.
