Thank you Lucy!

A school project with a difference.

"My name is Lucy and I am 12 years old. I was really sick in July 2022 and lost all movement in my left side. I had to have two brain operations and two sinus operations as I had Meningitis and Encephalitis from a sinus infection I had a couple of weeks before. I spent 5 weeks in hospital and am still having outpatient appointments and rehab. As part of my Year 6 PYP Exhibition Action Piece I chose to sell zooper doopers out the front of my house. Everyone was so generous and I raised $500. Being in hospital can be really scary and boring but my teacher Kelly from Monash Children’s Hospital School and my physio Fiona from the Rehab team made my life much more fun.

I did lots of activities like cooking, painting and 3D printing with Kelly and with Fiona we blasted out Katy Perry as I learnt to walk again.  I decided to give $250 to Monash Children’s Hospital School and $250 to the Rehab team to purchase more things to make other kids lives more fun in hospital. Thank you for helping me get through the worst time of my life and getting me back to all my normal things at home."

I acknowledge the sovereign ‘First Nations People of Country’, especially those of the Boonwurrung country, and recognise their ongoing and deep connection to the land, water and sky. I commit to protecting these as I live, work, play and travel across this vast nation. I pay my respects to First Nation peoples especially elders past, present and to all descendants of this nation who have cared for this place since creation. I thank them for their rich history, culture and indigenous ‘ways of knowing.’
